NO FLEA FOR US, IT IS UPCYCLING OUR OLD CLOTHES TO A GIANT RUG

We had a couple of experiences on flea markets recently. We were not selling anything, just accompanying a friend who was. Honestly, it was a complete waste of time. People who visit fleas are not like those visiting a craft fair. People are more than willing to fork out money to buy unique pieces at a craft fair. Whereas people who visit fleas are ugly bargain hunters. They would bargain down what is already cheap as chips. But because the vendors just want to get rid of stuff, they are sometimes, and especially towards the last couple of hours of the flea, more than willing to let things go for nothing. And that is what? A couple of hundreds or less made in a span of 8-12 hours, wasting friends' time (like us) and wasting what could have easily been a relaxing weekend over wine and cheese.

We have adopted the other route of shredding our old clothes and started to make a rug out of them. It is a tedious process of shredding, weaving and sewing but it is surely more therapeutic than wasting our time at a flea. We are aiming for a 80cm diameter rug. It would take us a few months to make that, considering we are only using our free time. Will update our progress as we go along. ;-p
