LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

USING KITCHEN ROLLS FOR GROWING YOUR MUSHROOMS?

We have been reading a lot on mushrooms. It seems like the way with the highest rate of success is to purchase the spores or spawn from a reputable mushroom farmer. That being the case, we think we would have to order it online. We are not sure how much that would amount to since the shipping could be expensive. Nevertheless, that is something to find out and consider.

We have also read about people cloning their mushrooms and growing their own mycelium by grinding a bunch of mushrooms and mixing it with compost or coffee grounds. Gosh we are sounding pretty professional here aren't we. Mycelium! Ha!

There are a few ways of going your mushrooms. You can have them in a covered bucket, a pot, a box, a log (indoors or outdoors). We love the whole deal of the log but finding a suitable log can be tricky.

But, how about recreating that log effect with a kitchen roll? The way they grow mushrooms on a log is to create dents on the log and inserted the spores/spawn into those grooves. Here is an idea: how about filling a kitchen roll with grooves with compost or coffee grounds with the spores/spawn? Will it then recreate a log effect? Hmmm, let us know or we can find out with we start this project in Amsterdam.
