10 ROSE PETALS USES IN THE KITCHEN

1. Rose Petal Tea
You will need to use organic roses in the kitchen for consumption. Non-organic roses have chemical fertiliser in them and pesticide on them and are unsafe. You can make rose tea the same way you make infusion with fresh mint. A few petals in a tea cup, fresh boiled water and keep the petals in for a few minutes and enjoy. You can leave the petals in.

2. Rose Petal Sauce
This is a Mexican recipe as featured in the movie 'Like Water for Chocolate'. A quail dish made with rose petal sauce shared between the star crossed lovers. Puree the rose petals and cactus and whisk in honey, salt and pepper.

3. Rose Petal Vinegar
You can have rose infused vinegar in mere minutes for your dinner party. Simmer white wine vinegar and rose petals in a stainless steel saucepan. Stir and let the vinegar cool once perfumed. You can leave the petals in for aesthetics.

4. Rose Petal Salad
Toss the pretty petals with your spring or summer salad. It adds colour and fragrance to the season of full bloom. Rose goes well with chicken, peaches and peas. It adds a perfume to the bitter rocket leaves.

5. Rose Petal Jam
Treat the petals you would like any fruits for making jam with. Combine the petals with some citrus juice and sugar and set aside. It could be lemon, lime or orange juice. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer until the consistency is of desired. It depends how strong you like the rose perfume to be, you will have to experiment the ratio.

6. Rose Petal Sweet Milk
This is like the spiced milk that we all know well. The Indians drink rose flavoured syrup with milk. But this is as delicious if you have fresh petals around. Simmer the petals in the milk and add sugar or condensed milk to taste.

7. Candied Rose Petals
Dip the rose petals in egg white and then in icing sugar. Place the petals one by one on a silicon sheet or baking paper and let dry. Once dry, they are a bit brittle. Use them on top of cakes, fruits or poached fruits for decorations.

8. Rose Petal Extract
Put as many petals as you can in a glass jar, and fill it up with vodka. Place the jar in a dark place and wait until the petals lose their colour. You will get rose extract for baking, cooking or even cocktails. You can speed up the process by placing the sealed jar in a dishwasher run.

9. Rose Petal Ice Cubes
Spruce up iced teas or cocktails by freezing petals in ice cubes. They make the drinks super pretty. The trick is to make the ice with boiled water. You will get clear ice cubes instead of cloudy ones.

10. Fruits with Rose Perfume
Soak cut fruits in chilled rose petal tea, or if you want, add rose petal extract for more perfume. Leave the fruits to chill while tossing them every now and then make sure they are all infusing. Drain and serve. This makes a delightful surprise.

4 WAYS HERBAL TEAS CAN DETOX YOU

I am a frequent traveller and I go to developing cities and towns to immerse into their cultures. With that, I try to take a lot of street food to understand their culture and also to mingle with the locals. Although one can assume street food is more or less safe to eat considering everyone else is doing it, there are also a lot of things that a traveller might not be able to stomach. It could be the herbs and spices used, or it could simply be the way it is prepared.

I normally go through a period of detox when I return to my home city. Being a frugal traveller, it also does not mean that you can go for the regular salads or your choice of meals all the time. You just have to live with what is affordable and along your route of travel. Hence, you might not be having very balanced meals for days on end. Many one-person meals do not have enough vegetables to be considered balanced in our countries. Hence you can imagine your body like a vessel that needs to be drained of it's toxins after your travel or holiday. So, the money question: Does herbal tea actually work? I shall review my experience with it.

  • It contains natural ingredients: Be it Ginger, Chamomile, Myrrh, Marsh Mallow, Ppeppermint Leaves, Rooibos, Persimmon Leaves, Holy Thistles. 'Natural' is the key word. Most detox teas contain artificial ingredients. Imagine adding more manmade substances into your already toxic body.
  • My favourite 2 ingredients Ginger and Chamomile are it. These are scientifically proven to work in the human body. Ginger increases our blood flow and also aids in digestion. Chamomile calms you and also makes your skin glow. Imagine your body working hard to get rid of the toxins, yet you do not feel the stress it is working hard to fight the battle for you.
  • You might be asking how a tea bag or some leaves or flowers can help to detox or lose weight. Here is why a lot of people do not see the result. Your vessel is already full of toxins. You should not, and I repeat, should not load it with more toxins. Many people think that detox products are miracle products where they can continue their lifestyle of vices, and they would be miraculously cleansed. No, it does not work like that. Even when you are trying to clean stains off your clothes, you do not add more stains to it when cleaning do you? So, always watch what you eat and drink while using herbal tea to make sure you get the maximum results. Cut down on artificial products and junk food, soft drinks, alcohol... you get the drift.
  • My top tip on using herbal tea is to sip it on an empty stomach. This is made of natural ingredients that are mild on your stomach. But they are also have active oils and minerals which will work better when absorbed quickly and immediately.

Enjoy the taste and rejuvenate yourself the way I did!

SO TIRED FROM LUCID DREAMING

We are working this weekend. We feel good, empowered that our ability has brought us to this stage in life where we have an awesome team supporting us. Despite that, our job is more difficult and sometimes it cause sleepless nights. We get so tired these days that going out to explore the city over the weekend is hardly an activity to consider.

This tiredness is surreal in itself. We have read about how people look so desperately to get themselves into a lucid dreamscape, when we go into that lucid state every day. For those who do not know what lucid dreaming is about, here is a definition. A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. In relation to this phenomenon, Greek philosopher Aristotle observed: "often when one is asleep, there is something in consciousness which declares that what then presents itself is but a dream".

And as much as people claim that lucid dreaming makes them feel fresh and energised, we beg to differ. We guess if lucid dreaming is something that doesn't happen every night for us, it might be a fresh experience that might just energise us considering how much a novelty it must be. However, this lucid dreaming happens every night. It is fun, and it is great for the weekend when we can sleep in. It is not so fun when the sleep is compromised. It has even become that work happens in our dreams. So, just how restful can that be?

Does anyone out there experience from lucid dreaming every night? Do you feel tired or rested upon wakefulness?

FREE MEDITATION EVERYDAY IN FRONT OF YOUR COMPUTER : THE LAW OF ATTRACTION CENTRE

Sometimes we might be too busy with work, with our families, with life, whatever it may be. Or it could be inertia or procrastination. It happens to the best of us. It has happened to me before when I thought it to be a hassle to get dressed and then travel to meditate for an hour. I know, I know. That is nothing. Many people get dressed and go play tennis, hit the gym or something.

But all that aside, how about a meditation session that comes to you? I stumbled upon The Law of Attraction Centre on Meetup.com when I was toying with the idea of meditation in the beginning. They broadcast the free meditation session which spans about 25-30minutes online and there are 4 different times to choose from.

Just sit back in the comfort of your home and close your eyes and plug in your earphones. This is very personal, yet you know there are people doing it with you because you will see the numbers of meditators connected to the online session. The screen grab above doesn't show it as it is on the disconnected mode.

The broadcast meditation starts with a 15 minutes relaxation and then a 10 minutes visualisation exercise which I think is brilliant. The voice is that of a female and it is calm and soothing. There are also tibetan singing bowls in the background.

Again on Fidgety Fingers, I urge you to try meditation and why not when it is free and in the comfort of your home? You will have more clarity, you will enjoy a healthier state of mind, you will feel more calm and relax, you will not be bogged down by inertia because it is just there right in front of you.

10 UNSOLVED MYSTERIES OF THE HUMAN BODY

WHAT YOU EAT CAN HELP YOU TO STAY YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL. LESS WRINKLES THAT IS.

I love most BBC documentaries and this is one that I re-watched after coming back from holiday and feeling a bit sun burnt. I have a summary of what are being explored in this documentary.

  • Lycopene in tomatoes (and in the case of the documentary, tomato paste of 55g ) can increase your body's natural protection from the sun by a third.
  • Polyphenols in red wine is good for the heart as it increases blood flow and promotes healthy circulation.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon and Tamac (? I have never heard of this, I will research a bit more, but it is surely only Cab Sau from now) has more polyphenols in them.
  • Drink alcohol with food in your stomach so that your liver doesn't overwork and has time to neutralise it. Try not to exceed the daily intake limit of 3 units.
  • It is a myth to have to drink 2 litres of water a day to stay hydrated.
  • Vivid coloured berries like strawberries and blueberries have high anti-oxidant properties and are good for the brains.
  • Spinach is good for eyes.
  • Do detox diets work? No, so forget health shakes and vege diets. A detox regime will not improve your body's natural detox processes.
  • Just eat colours.

LET'S LEARN EASY MEDITATION

I have taken up mediation and I have learned that it helps to clear the mind and begin a day feeling more refresh. You will feel clear of negative thoughts and will be able to head the day with much ease. I have asked a few friends to try meditating to reap the benefits, even health benefits since some of them suffer from high blood pressure and anxiety. That is to no avail.

Some people are just not open to trying things or they might even think meditation has something to do with religion and is against their religion. I am not here to change anyone's mind but I do urge people to try it. It has nothing religious about it, it is not difficult and you can start by choosing the length of time you are comfortable with. I found a 10 minute guide to introduce easy meditation and the breathing methods. Do have a try and see what you think for yourself. It is after free and what is 10 minute of your life in the whole scheme of things? What percentage is that in your life and how is learning something new compared to 10 minutes on the smartphone or telly?

HERE IS SOME DALAI LAMA WISDOM FOR 2015

Happy New Year everyone! Enjoy an awesome year ahead.

THIS IS WHAT OUR WALKING SESSIONS ARE DOING TO US

COOLING AND WARMING FOODS FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR

It has been crazy hot in Asia in this recent months. Singapore and Malaysia are suffering from a heat wave. A friend who just returned from Shen Zhen also reported that it is unbearably hot over that. It is useful to know what is cooling and warming foods.

CAN A CUP OF TEA CURE YOUR COLD?

We are ill again. This is the second time in a month. When such a thing happens, it isn't that a bug is going around and that we have caught it. This is a sign of fatigue and having our immune system being on strike, telling us that we are tired and it is time to rest and relax.

We tried treating our dry cough with chamomile tea the other time. It provided a lot of relief but we cannot say it should be the only thing one should take as a remedy. Of course staying hydrated helps to heal, but it is still not as speedy as western meds unfortunately.

This time we felt a bit of a sniffle and thought it is time we bump up the antioxidants in our bodies. Rooibos tea has got loads more antioxidant properties than green tea and does not contain caffeine. It also has a naturally sweet taste that makes it very platable. We are making our Rooibos with spices like cloves, cinnamon, coriander seeds, pepper balls and cardamon. Hopefully this little concoction will help to warm up our bodies and rid this cold in no time.

Traditional chinese medicine has a herbal tea to treat colds that basically forces one to sweat out the toxins in their bodies. We will see how our concoction works in comparison. We will be reporting our progress soon.

6 MYTHS ABOUT DRINKING YOU PROBABLY BELIEVE

Whoever makes all these videos have a pretty enjoyable time making them. What a job it is.

CHAMOMILE TEA FOR YOUR SORE THROAT OR THAT NASTY COUGH

We have been suffering from a sore throat when we were in KL last week. The air is still bad in KL and we were told that it is annual event. With the lack of trees and with KL being a valley, it is no wonder the bad air stays put and it difficult to be renewed. And of course, the peat fire is relentless, we could still see it from the plane takeoff.

Our throats continued to worsen until we finally lost our voices come the new week. We were using Kamillosan, a throat spray for disinfectn, but we eventually exhausted that half of bottle left of good old essential oil spray.

This is what it consists of just in case you are wondering what makes it so 'essential'.

Chamomile, Pepermint, Sage, oil, Anise, Pine Needle Oil, Bergamot Oil, Eucalyptol, Methyl Salicylate.

On the basis of essential oils and active substances of the Chamomile for acute and chronic diseases of the buccal, pharyngeal cavities.

Indications :
  • inflammatory affections of the buccal and pharyngeal cavity
  • parodontosis, acute gingivitis
  • pain after tooth extraction and during second detition
  • mucosal irritation cause by dental plates
  • tonsillary angina
  • canker sores
  • bad breath

Directions :
Apply the sprayer 3 times daily to the affected region of the buccal and pharyngeal cavity. Two shots applied with the spraying head correspond head correspond to a fully effective single dose. It is recommended to use the sprayer after meals.

Ok, and then what? It is finished and we actually are not even sure if we could get Kamillosan in Singapore. We bought it in Bangkok a while back. One might say, hey why not just go to the doc? We could, but we are simply too busy. We could, but we are also reluctant to drown ourselves with those syrups which make us drowsy. It is just not a good high!

So, we thought to ourselves and thought we try to self-medicate with our stash of herbal stuff. We have lavender, chamomile and rooibos tea. It seems that chamomile is certainly something to consider, considering it is one of the main herb in Kamillosan. We have always thought of chamomile tea as a relaxing tea and especially one to aid insomnia. Little did we know that there is much more to chamomile than we had initially known.

Chamomile tea is known to have healing properties and for many centuries it has been used as an elixir to cure a number of ailments, such as insomnia, back pain and anxiety. It's most common use, however, is as a muscle relaxer. A chamomile tea remedy relieves body pain, such as from menstrual cramps, and alleviates inflammation. A 2003 study published in the "Journal of Herbal Pharmacotherapy" discovered that chamomile tea was effective for reducing cough frequency and cough intensity in asthmatic patients. Consult your medical advisor before using herbal remedies to treat a condition in order to prevent an allergic reaction. If pregnant, avoid taking chamomile tea.
This was extracted from http://www.livestrong.com/

Naturally chamomile tea is not caffeinated, one of the reasons that it is so calming, but chamomile itself is a mild muscle relaxant, that can help relieve stress, anxiety and even depression. In addition to being calming though, chamomile tea offers health benefits for helping cure a cough as severe as bronchitis, a fever or inflammation of the skin. One study even suggest that chamomile may act as both an antimicrobial and an antioxidant. In the study for two weeks fourteen healthy people were observed, these volunteers drank five cups of chamomile tea every single day of the two week study. At the in of the two weeks researchers found that by drinking the chamomile tea the volunteer had produced an increase in hippurate, a substance that is associated with increased antibacterial activity and helps fight off common colds.

6 BIGGEST HEALTH LIES

BEAUTY SUPPLEMENTS FOR 2014

Beauty or not, these supplements help us to keep our bodies moving. They help to maintain our cells and get rid of free radicals. They are like a jump start for our bodies to do their own beauty regime within.

1. CoQ10
This is a natural supplement. Our bodies develop this enzyme naturally but the amount decreases when we get older. You’ve probably heard of the CoQ10 supplement for skin care before. It’s actually more commonly seen as a topical ingredient than in a supplement but they both work great to reduce the look of wrinkles and improve the overall look of your skin. CoQ10’s benefits aren’t limited to just our skin, they also include health benefits like reducing gum disease, heart problems and increasing fertility!

2. FISH OIL
We take this together with CoQ10 as it needs some fat to activate it. We of course also take the CoQ10 together with a fatty meal. Please don't take our word of fat as bad. Fish oil is full of omega 3 and this is especially good for our skins, joints and vascular maintenance.

3. FO-TI
This is a traditional Chinese herb that is a strong anti-oxidant. It is a bark that is grounded into a powder form and put in capsules. Our mom used to take this and this herb is especially good in prevent gray hair. Some even claim that it can reverse gray hair! We shall see. Being a strong anti-oxidant, it is also good our skins and maintaining our overall wellbeing. We have tried to use this herb in TCM soups and herbal teas but we are just not entirely sure about the degree of the heat and time that is needed to extract the goodness of this herb in its most potent form. A capsule works just nicely.

4. CORDYCEPS
Ultra Cordyceps Plus contains pure cultivated Cordyceps sinensis, an herb used for centuries in China as a vitalizing tonic that improves energy and benefits the function of various organs and systems.* Ultra Cordyceps Plus contains a strain of cultivated Cordyceps recognized by the Chinese government as most similar to wild Cordyceps sinensis, a rare fungus found in the Tibetan Highlands of China. Two herbs that support the rejuvenating effect of cordyceps are added: Ginkgo biloba extract and artichoke leaf extract.

It improves energy, stamina and vitality. It also supports lung helth, liver function and memory and metal ability.

5. CHLORELLA
Chlorella is promoted as an herbal remedy for a wide range of conditions. Proponents claim it kills several types of cancer, fights bacterial and viral infections, enhances the immune system, increases the growth of "friendly" germs in the digestive tract, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and promotes healing of intestinal ulcers, diverticulosis, and Crohn’s disease. It is said to "cleanse" the blood, digestive system, and the liver. Chlorella supporters also say that it helps the body eliminate mold and process more oxygen.

Supporters state that chlorella supplements increase the level of albumin in the body. Albumin is a protein normally present in the bloodstream, and promoters claim it protects against diseases such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, AIDS, pancreatitis, cirrhosis, hepatitis, anemia, and multiple sclerosis.

Chlorella is said to prevent cancer through its ability to cleanse the body of toxins and heavy metals. Some Web sites describe it as the perfect food, saying that it regulates blood sugar, kills cancer cells, strengthens the immune system, and even "reverses the aging cycle."

6. CRANBERRY EXTRACT
Cranberry Concentrate capsules are a convenient way of obtaining the benefits of cranberry juice. It takes over 8 pounds of whole cranberries to produce 1 pound of Cranberry Concentrate powder. This is good for diabetics as it does not includes the sugar in the juices. It is good for urinary tract disorders as it prevents bacteria from sticking to the uterine walls. It also is a powerful anti-oxidant that is good for our skins.

SO MANY SUPPLEMENT? YOU MIGHT ASK.
We travel a lot and do not usually eat too much. So, we think that having these natural supplements is a good way to keep up our health and maintain it. We would not be too into it if we are taking chemical supplements but natural ones are just like super foods. We think that they are especially convenient since we travel to places where food might not be so balanced.

THE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ON OUR LOOKS?

Look what giving up drink for a month can do to your face: Mother who enjoyed five glasses of wine a week is transformed after going cold turkey

We all worry about the effect an extra glass of wine has on our waistline — but what about on our skin?
To find out if ditching alcohol can improve your complexion, we challenged Laura Hogarth, a 40-year-old mother-of-two from Falkirk, to spend a month without consuming a drop of booze.

Before this, Laura drank about 15 units of alcohol a week — which equates to around five large glasses of wine and is just  one unit a week above the recommended national guidelines for women.

Many modern women enjoy a drink with an evening meal or have a glass of wine at home to unwind after a busy day, with large numbers of women exceeding the Government’s daily drinking guidelines of two to three units a day.

But would many cut down if they knew that, as well as affecting their health, alcohol could also damage their looks, making them look years older than their age?
As Dr Nick Lowe, a professor of dermatology based in London and Los Angeles, says: ‘Alcohol does several things to our bodies, none of them good.

‘One of the main effects is a chemical reaction that causes our peripheral blood vessels to expand and widen, so allowing more blood to flow through our skin.’

Here, he and Laura give their week-by-week verdicts on how a month without alcohol transformed her life — and looks.

    WEEK ONE
At week one Laura clearly has skin which is red and flushed
At week one Laura clearly has skin which is red and flushed
Laura says: ‘Urgh, this picture looks horrific. I look awful. My skin is red and flushed, all the way down my decolletage. My forehead and nose are shiny and there are rough, dry patches across my cheeks.

‘More worryingly, I don’t remember thinking my skin actually looked this bad.

‘As a full-time mother to Callan, 11, and Amy, seven, I have little time to worry about my appearance — I’m too busy rushing them to school, after-school clubs and doing the housework.
‘I can get half-way through the day before realising I’m not wearing any make-up. Even though I’m not vain, I am aware of my skin’s failings. It’s dry, not just on my face but all over my body, and — as you can see — red and flushed.

‘I’ve had broken, red veins around my nose since I was a teenager and, in spite of the dryness, a greasy nose and forehead.

‘I don’t think I drink an awful lot, but if giving up alcohol helps my skin, especially the redness, it’s worth it. Even more so if it can help me lose weight!
‘Within days of giving up drinking, my skin has improved dramatically. The redness has lifted, although the thread veins around my nose are still visible and my forehead and neck are a little rosy. Most excitingly, my eyes are brighter — it hadn’t even occurred to me they looked dull before.’

Dr Lowe says: ‘Alcohol makes skin look red or flushed, which is more obvious in paler complexions like Laura’s. In both the 'before' picture and the 'after one week' picture her face looks red.
It can take weeks of no drinking for the blood vessels to constrict fully and redness to disappear altogether.

‘If you drink regularly over a number of years — and especially in larger quantities — small peripheral veins can become permanently enlarged after being repetitively expanded, causing thread veins and permanent skin damage.’

    WEEK TWO
By week two Laura says she was sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently in the night
By week two Laura says she was sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently in the night
Laura says: ‘What a miracle! I’m sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently during the night.

‘Before, I might have woken up once or twice — whether I’d had a drink or not — but now I am sleeping like a baby. It might have helped that it was also the school holidays, so the children were sleeping in as well, but I am definitely waking up feeling brighter and more alert.

‘I’ve also noticed that in the evenings I’m not snacking as much. Normally I’d crave crisps with my usual glass of wine, but sipping a glass of lime and soda means I don’t feel like junk food. The urge just isn’t there.

‘This week also saw our 13th wedding anniversary. My husband Euan took me out to a lovely restaurant overlooking the River Forth.
'When he ordered a tall, cool beer, I had real cravings for a glass of rosé. It got worse when the table next to us started popping corks. I ordered a pink lemonade instead to distract myself.
'At least Euan was happy, as there was no discussion over who was driving home!’

Dr Lowe says‘Laura’s cheeks look puffy and swollen and there’s a lingering redness still — although it’s less obvious now.

'The spider veins remain on her lips and nose, but these might take longer to go, if at all. Facial puffiness is caused by the gentle leakage of fluid from enlarged blood vessels.

‘During the night, when we lie flat for a number of hours, this fluid tends to accumulate around our eye-lids and cheeks.

'This is because lying down helps gravity push it in that direction, but also because this is where the skin is loosest and therefore has the most room to accommodate excess fluid.

‘During the day, as we stand up and move about, the trapped fluids are released back into circulation, so the facial swelling reduces.

'After a period of time without alcohol, our blood vessels constrict, so less fluid will accumulate in the first place and skin will look less swollen after a night’s rest.’

    WEEK THREE
Laura began noticing a difference in her skin's dryness after week three
Laura began noticing a difference in her skin's dryness after week three
Laura says: ‘By now I’m noticing a difference in my skin’s dryness, and not just on my face.

'It sounds unpleasant, but when I used to take off leggings or trousers I often noticed dry flakes of skin left behind. Now there’s hardly anything.
‘Equally the backs of my hands are looking less dry and — unless I’m imagining it — marginally  less wrinkly.

‘When my mother visited this week, she said how less blotchy I was looking — success! A friend also said my skin tone looked more even.

‘Euan and I have noticed less of a difference day-by-day. That’s probably because it’s such a gradual change, but friends and family are noticing the improvement in my appearance which has given me a real thrill.

‘This has made me feel braver and more confident. I left my hand-mirror at home for a weekend camping trip this week and only took a couple of face wipes and a small pot of moisturiser — and still I got compliments.

'I did miss having a glass of wine around the camp fire, but the nice comments more than made up for that.’

Dr Lowe says: ‘There’s a significant reduction in facial redness, even around Laura’s nose and lips. She looks healthier, less puffy and slimmer, especially around her cheeks and jowls.

‘Stopping drinking alcohol means you reduce your calorie intake. There are up to 185 calories in a large glass of wine.

'Not only that, alcohol has the secondary effect of stimulating appetite, so I’m not surprised Laura isn’t snacking as much.

‘Drinking alcohol also makes the skin dry because increased blood flow though the skin speeds everything up and stimulates skin cells to renew and shed quicker.

‘Studies have shown high levels of alcohol consumption can also exacerbate dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and facial eczema.’

    WEEK FOUR
Laura lost 3lb and her face was slimmer by week four
Laura lost 3lb and her face was slimmer by week four
Laura says: ‘While Euan hasn’t noticed my mood changing, by week four I’m feeling invigorated and so much better in myself.

‘I’m getting fewer headaches and have much more energy. My lips are less dry, too — I usually get a cold sore almost every week —  but since ditching the booze not a single one has appeared.

‘Better still, I’ve lost 3lb and my face definitely looks slimmer. I have to admit, it’s been far easier to abstain from alcohol than I’d feared. I said no to a few barbecues, just in case I was tempted, but I’ve enjoyed feeling healthier and brighter, especially in the mornings.

‘On the whole, the month has sailed by. I’m going to try and stick to the no drinking rule — or at least cut out alcohol during the week.

'I’ve only had one major lapse since the end of my booze-free month. It was the very first night after the experiment and I went out with a group of friends to celebrate.

‘We drank far too much, and guess what? When I woke in the morning I looked red as anything and noticed a small dry patch of skin had re-emerged. It just goes to show alcohol does a lot worse than just give you a hangover!’

Dr Lowe says: ‘Although the changes between the final two weeks are subtler, this last photo shows a much improved Laura.

'Her eyes are more open and brighter. This, again, is because of the increased blood flow caused by alcohol. If more blood passes through the eye’s surface, it looks duller and more bloodshot.
‘After four weeks without alcohol, the blood vessels have constricted and her eyes are bright white once more.

'By now the redness across her cheeks and neck has vastly diminished and the thread veins around her nose have largely disappeared.

‘This is a classic example of what I’d hope to see for someone who has given up alcohol — and if she sticks to it, she’ll only feel and look even better.’

    MULBERRY TEA AND ITS BENEFITS

We were in Thailand recently and bought some Mulberry tea. We are not big fans of drinking plain water, anything of an infusion is great. So, here are some facts about Mulberry tea and its benefits.

Mulberry tea is used to treat a variety of health issues including colds, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Find out the top 5 health benefits today. From Mulberrytea.org.

    Cold Symptoms
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, mulberry tea can be used to treat conditions associated with the liver and lung meridians. It helps clear fever, headache, sore throat, cough, and red or painful eyes. Mulberry tea can also inhibit the development of bacterial strains, including streptococcus, the cause of strep throat. Drink mulberry tea to prevent and recover from common cold symptoms.

    Weight Loss
Mulberry tea naturally inhibits carbohydrate absorption. This is a result of the compound moranoline (1-deoxynojirimycin). Moranoline inhibits an enzyme in the intestinal tract (alpha-glucosidase) involved in the digestion of carbohydrates. This means the starchy, carbohydrate-rich foods you eat, like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes, do not turn to glucose in your body and are simply flushed out. The lack of glucose in your system also lowers your blood sugar levels, making you less hungry. Used aspart of a sensible diet, mulberry tea helps you achieve your weight loss goals.

    Blood Vessel Health
Mulberry tea reduces the oxidization of cholesterol in the blood vessels, resulting in reduced risk of atherosclerosis (blocked blood vessels). This is due to quercetin and additional flavonoids contained inmulberry leaves. These antioxidants inhibit oxidative stress reactions that produce atherosclerosis. For healthy blood vessels, drink mulberry tea as a regular supplement to a healthy lifestyle.

    Blood Sugar Balance
Mulberry leaf tea can balance blood sugar and aids in carbohydrate absorption according to a 2008 study. According to Medical News Today, the herb lowers post-meal blood sugar spikes andstabilizes blood sugar levels. As a result, drinking mulberry tea results in more sustained energy levels throughout the day.

    Diabetes
For centuries, mulberry tea has been used as a treatment for diabetes mellitus in Asia. One of the most unique qualities of the mulberry leaf tea is its ability to prevent sugars from entering your bloodstream. Researchers in Japan found that mulberry leaves contain compounds that inhibit intestinal enzymes from passing sugars into the bloodstream. This inhibitor compound known as 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), can only be extracted from the mulberry leaf. By preventing large amounts of monosaccharide from entering into circulation, mulberry tea helps prevent and fight diabetes.

Prior to using mulberry leaf tea to treat any condition, please consult a licensed health care provider.
