LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

WHY NOT CONSIDER SUSTAINABLE AGRITOURISM FOR YOUR NEXT HOLIDAY?

We have had enough of high-end resorts and urban smurban so far. We are thinking of going for Agriturismo this summer/autumn. What is Agritourism or Agriturismo, you might ask. Here is the lowdown from Wiki:

Agritourism, as it is defined most broadly, involves any agriculturally-based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch. Agritourism has different definitions in different parts of the world, and sometimes refers specifically to farm stays, as in Italy. Elsewhere, agritourism includes a wide variety of activities, including buying produce direct from a farm stand, navigating a corn maze, picking fruit, feeding animals, or staying at a B&B on a farm[1].

Agritourism is a form of niche tourism that is considered a growth industry in many parts of the world, including Australia[2], Canada [3], the United States [4], and the Philippines [5]. Agritourism overlaps with geotourism, ecotourism, and culinary tourism. Other terms associated with agritourism are "agritainment", "value added products," "farm direct marketing", and "sustainable agriculture".

HERE ARE SOME REASONS TO GO FOR AGRITOURISM :

When you are tired of noise and pollution and need a break, romantic or not, why not consider going for a farmhouse stay? It is not commercialized, you would be supporting local farmers and their produce. And what you get in return is fresh air and beautiful scenery, more than fresh and healthy food and beautifully quaint local crafts.

You would be near a farm or a vineyard or an olive grove. You can even buy the produce at wholesale prices.

Such farmhouses are well-equiped and they have internet connections and most of them have a pool for you to relax in.

Beautiful scenery. Need we say more?

Wonderful freshly picked produce. No food miles, just food inches. Agritourism will deliver fresh and typically local produce. They will not have fish on the menu as they can only serve what they grow on the land but their meat, cured hams, cheese and vegetables will be from the farm, in season and cooked by the owners.
