4 WAYS HERBAL TEAS CAN DETOX YOU

I am a frequent traveller and I go to developing cities and towns to immerse into their cultures. With that, I try to take a lot of street food to understand their culture and also to mingle with the locals. Although one can assume street food is more or less safe to eat considering everyone else is doing it, there are also a lot of things that a traveller might not be able to stomach. It could be the herbs and spices used, or it could simply be the way it is prepared.

I normally go through a period of detox when I return to my home city. Being a frugal traveller, it also does not mean that you can go for the regular salads or your choice of meals all the time. You just have to live with what is affordable and along your route of travel. Hence, you might not be having very balanced meals for days on end. Many one-person meals do not have enough vegetables to be considered balanced in our countries. Hence you can imagine your body like a vessel that needs to be drained of it's toxins after your travel or holiday. So, the money question: Does herbal tea actually work? I shall review my experience with it.

  • It contains natural ingredients: Be it Ginger, Chamomile, Myrrh, Marsh Mallow, Ppeppermint Leaves, Rooibos, Persimmon Leaves, Holy Thistles. 'Natural' is the key word. Most detox teas contain artificial ingredients. Imagine adding more manmade substances into your already toxic body.
  • My favourite 2 ingredients Ginger and Chamomile are it. These are scientifically proven to work in the human body. Ginger increases our blood flow and also aids in digestion. Chamomile calms you and also makes your skin glow. Imagine your body working hard to get rid of the toxins, yet you do not feel the stress it is working hard to fight the battle for you.
  • You might be asking how a tea bag or some leaves or flowers can help to detox or lose weight. Here is why a lot of people do not see the result. Your vessel is already full of toxins. You should not, and I repeat, should not load it with more toxins. Many people think that detox products are miracle products where they can continue their lifestyle of vices, and they would be miraculously cleansed. No, it does not work like that. Even when you are trying to clean stains off your clothes, you do not add more stains to it when cleaning do you? So, always watch what you eat and drink while using herbal tea to make sure you get the maximum results. Cut down on artificial products and junk food, soft drinks, alcohol... you get the drift.
  • My top tip on using herbal tea is to sip it on an empty stomach. This is made of natural ingredients that are mild on your stomach. But they are also have active oils and minerals which will work better when absorbed quickly and immediately.

Enjoy the taste and rejuvenate yourself the way I did!

MAKES A BEAUTIFUL BUBBLE RING

THE MANY OTHER USES OF MOISTURISER

Please feel free to add a comment on some other uses I might have missed out on this list, or uses that we do not know of yet!
  1. To moisturise your body of course.
  2. As a makeup removal. You will still have to wash your face after that to fully remove the residue in the moisturiser left on your face. Nonetheless, your makeup will be off your face. Use cotton buds for your eyeliner.
  3. As a leather softener. I would be careful and check that your moisturiser is fragrant-free and do a patch test before smearing it all over. Some leathers are not finished off properly and hence their dyes or coloured coatings could come off easily.
  4. Soften calluses. Rub in the moisturiser and then smear more of it on your feet. Wrap your feet with those A4 size plastic bags you find at the supermarket aisles for vegetables and fruits. Then put on socks over the bags and then go to sleep. Your feet will be moisturised the next morning and your calluses will also be softer. Wash the moisturiser off your feet and soak your feet for about 10 minutes before your remove your calluses by pumice, scrapping or the Ped Egg.
  5. As shaving cream. Some of used shampoo or shower gel or simply the suds when you are showering. But if you are not shaving in the shower, moisturiser is something to consider. You do not need to rinse too. Just wipe it off and your skin is moisturised at the same time.
  6. As a massage oil. Massage oils are sometimes expensive to buy, so you can consider simply using your moisturiser or add a few drops to your moisturiser for that extra oomph.
  7. For dry hair ends or fly-away hair. I am not suggesting applying it as your serum or leave-in conditioner. It would be too oily. If you do not need an overall serum or if you just want to tame your dry ends, try this. Rub the moisturiser between your hands. This should not be creamy, if so, rubs the excess into your skin, your arms or legs. You just need some oil from the moisturiser on your palms, activate the oil by rubbing your palms together and clean off the oils onto your hair ends or tame fly-aways.
  8. Prolonging your perfume. I think I have read this somewhere or it might be with vaseline. But I think a fragrant-free moisturiser would work too. What you want is something that will stick to your skin a bit longer than the ethanol in the perfume which will evaporate into the air throughout your day. Apply some fragrant-free moisturiser onto your neck, wrists or areas where you apply your perfume and then spray away. It should last longer than usual. Do try this on days in first, you do not know what is in your moisturiser that might react with the perfume sometimes. If it starts to smell different from your perfume after a while, you know your moisturiser probably contains too many chemicals and nonsense.

QUOTES FROM OSCAR WILDE : THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY

We re-watched an old rendition of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. The drama series of Penny Dreadful recently brought about all these characters again. Dorian Gray, so beautiful and yet so tragic indeed.

OIL CONTROL PAPER FROM DAISO OR THE 100YEN SHOP

We bought this from Can Do in Hokkaido. Come on, it was only for a 100Yen, which is S$1.23. Cheap enough to be worth a try. There are 250 pieces of the oil control sheets. We have always been using Gatsby which is lasting us forever.

How much is Gatsby? It is about S$4+ for 70 sheets? Well, there abouts. We have very oily skin towards the middle of the day. A piece of Gatsby oil control sheet will do the job just fine to take all, if not most of the oil off our face.

What about this cheap version then? We reckon it will only work for you if you have not so oily skin. What is usually a sheet of Gatsby, now takes about 2-3 sheets of this cheap version to do the job. And mind you, it is still not that de-greased.

IS HYDROLYSED YEAST THE SAME AS BIODYNE IN PREPARATION H?

This is a rather weird post. We have been reading about Preparation H as a beauty saver. Yes, this crazy ass ointment is also used by celebs such as Sandra Bullock on her face! Prep H is known to constrict blood vessels and so reduces puffy eyes and could potentially reduce the signs of wrinkles.

The thing is, a lot of ladies said that the original Prep H ingredients are not available in the new US formula anymore. The original Biodyne which is a live Yeast derivative is still available in the Canadian formula.

We found this Prep H ointment in the pharmacy which is from Canada. It has hydrogenated shark liver oil and also hydrolysed yeast. This is what is different from the US formula. It does not say it is BioDyne.

The Canadian formulation of Prep h includes a yeast extract called BioDyne which has been removed from the formulation previously sold in the US in 1995. This yeast extract is believed by Pfizer to remove wrinkles from skin and deal dry cracked and irritated skin, The Canadian formulation has acquired a market in the US as a skin cream with an anti-wrinkle active ingredient.

We believe that BioDyne is a brand, a name of yeast extract. Though we are not entirely sure, we were glad to have found this Canadian version to give it a test.

Now, this is the back of the ointment pack, its instructive for its original usage.

We decided to have a patch test on the wrinkles on our wrist. This is the beginning of the test. We have just put on the ointment.

This is our wrist at about 40minutes later. It definitely seems to us that Prep H has an immediate effect on reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It is only temporary. So, we are still questioning if this hydrolysed yeast is that same BioDyne. Do you guys out there have an answer?

LET THERE BE COLOURS IN 2014 : CELEBRITIES WITHOUT MAKEUP

From zero to hero. This should make us feel a lot better in 2014 seeing celebrities without their makeup. It is amazing what a bit of cover up and colour can do to someone. Let there be more colours in 2014. A little bit of colour isn't that bad huh. We just need to be selective who sees us without our colours.

BEAUTY SUPPLEMENTS FOR 2014

Beauty or not, these supplements help us to keep our bodies moving. They help to maintain our cells and get rid of free radicals. They are like a jump start for our bodies to do their own beauty regime within.

1. CoQ10
This is a natural supplement. Our bodies develop this enzyme naturally but the amount decreases when we get older. You’ve probably heard of the CoQ10 supplement for skin care before. It’s actually more commonly seen as a topical ingredient than in a supplement but they both work great to reduce the look of wrinkles and improve the overall look of your skin. CoQ10’s benefits aren’t limited to just our skin, they also include health benefits like reducing gum disease, heart problems and increasing fertility!

2. FISH OIL
We take this together with CoQ10 as it needs some fat to activate it. We of course also take the CoQ10 together with a fatty meal. Please don't take our word of fat as bad. Fish oil is full of omega 3 and this is especially good for our skins, joints and vascular maintenance.

3. FO-TI
This is a traditional Chinese herb that is a strong anti-oxidant. It is a bark that is grounded into a powder form and put in capsules. Our mom used to take this and this herb is especially good in prevent gray hair. Some even claim that it can reverse gray hair! We shall see. Being a strong anti-oxidant, it is also good our skins and maintaining our overall wellbeing. We have tried to use this herb in TCM soups and herbal teas but we are just not entirely sure about the degree of the heat and time that is needed to extract the goodness of this herb in its most potent form. A capsule works just nicely.

4. CORDYCEPS
Ultra Cordyceps Plus contains pure cultivated Cordyceps sinensis, an herb used for centuries in China as a vitalizing tonic that improves energy and benefits the function of various organs and systems.* Ultra Cordyceps Plus contains a strain of cultivated Cordyceps recognized by the Chinese government as most similar to wild Cordyceps sinensis, a rare fungus found in the Tibetan Highlands of China. Two herbs that support the rejuvenating effect of cordyceps are added: Ginkgo biloba extract and artichoke leaf extract.

It improves energy, stamina and vitality. It also supports lung helth, liver function and memory and metal ability.

5. CHLORELLA
Chlorella is promoted as an herbal remedy for a wide range of conditions. Proponents claim it kills several types of cancer, fights bacterial and viral infections, enhances the immune system, increases the growth of "friendly" germs in the digestive tract, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and promotes healing of intestinal ulcers, diverticulosis, and Crohn’s disease. It is said to "cleanse" the blood, digestive system, and the liver. Chlorella supporters also say that it helps the body eliminate mold and process more oxygen.

Supporters state that chlorella supplements increase the level of albumin in the body. Albumin is a protein normally present in the bloodstream, and promoters claim it protects against diseases such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, AIDS, pancreatitis, cirrhosis, hepatitis, anemia, and multiple sclerosis.

Chlorella is said to prevent cancer through its ability to cleanse the body of toxins and heavy metals. Some Web sites describe it as the perfect food, saying that it regulates blood sugar, kills cancer cells, strengthens the immune system, and even "reverses the aging cycle."

6. CRANBERRY EXTRACT
Cranberry Concentrate capsules are a convenient way of obtaining the benefits of cranberry juice. It takes over 8 pounds of whole cranberries to produce 1 pound of Cranberry Concentrate powder. This is good for diabetics as it does not includes the sugar in the juices. It is good for urinary tract disorders as it prevents bacteria from sticking to the uterine walls. It also is a powerful anti-oxidant that is good for our skins.

SO MANY SUPPLEMENT? YOU MIGHT ASK.
We travel a lot and do not usually eat too much. So, we think that having these natural supplements is a good way to keep up our health and maintain it. We would not be too into it if we are taking chemical supplements but natural ones are just like super foods. We think that they are especially convenient since we travel to places where food might not be so balanced.

CASTOR OIL THOUGHTS : HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR CASTOR OIL?

We bought a bottle of castor oil for our .... well, everything, skin, hair..etc. Here is what we think to date:

  • On skin: It is a bit thick and sticky. It does not really dissipate. So, it stays on your skin and kind of makes everything oily, your sheets, your clothes. We also tried it on our faces and it just makes our faces too oily for our liking. We stay in the tropics so it might just not be suitable for our climate. It is a very good emollient though. We will definitely use this when we are in climate countries.
  • On hair: It is simply too sticky and thick for the hair. It made our hair look too greasy.
How we are using our castor oil now:
  • We use it on very specific spots. Lets say elbow and ankles. We also use it for very dry spots. It works very well.
  • We mix it with other oils like jojoba and sweet almond oil. The other oils are lighter and so the mixture makes it easier to use castor oil. We usually use this ratio, 1 castor oil : 2 other oils. We also add some essential oils to make this a good massage oil or simply a moisturiser.
  • We have not tried it on our hair with the oil mixture. It just seems too greasy for us.
How else are you using your castor oil? Do share.

THE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ON OUR LOOKS?

Look what giving up drink for a month can do to your face: Mother who enjoyed five glasses of wine a week is transformed after going cold turkey

We all worry about the effect an extra glass of wine has on our waistline — but what about on our skin?
To find out if ditching alcohol can improve your complexion, we challenged Laura Hogarth, a 40-year-old mother-of-two from Falkirk, to spend a month without consuming a drop of booze.

Before this, Laura drank about 15 units of alcohol a week — which equates to around five large glasses of wine and is just  one unit a week above the recommended national guidelines for women.

Many modern women enjoy a drink with an evening meal or have a glass of wine at home to unwind after a busy day, with large numbers of women exceeding the Government’s daily drinking guidelines of two to three units a day.

But would many cut down if they knew that, as well as affecting their health, alcohol could also damage their looks, making them look years older than their age?
As Dr Nick Lowe, a professor of dermatology based in London and Los Angeles, says: ‘Alcohol does several things to our bodies, none of them good.

‘One of the main effects is a chemical reaction that causes our peripheral blood vessels to expand and widen, so allowing more blood to flow through our skin.’

Here, he and Laura give their week-by-week verdicts on how a month without alcohol transformed her life — and looks.

    WEEK ONE
At week one Laura clearly has skin which is red and flushed
At week one Laura clearly has skin which is red and flushed
Laura says: ‘Urgh, this picture looks horrific. I look awful. My skin is red and flushed, all the way down my decolletage. My forehead and nose are shiny and there are rough, dry patches across my cheeks.

‘More worryingly, I don’t remember thinking my skin actually looked this bad.

‘As a full-time mother to Callan, 11, and Amy, seven, I have little time to worry about my appearance — I’m too busy rushing them to school, after-school clubs and doing the housework.
‘I can get half-way through the day before realising I’m not wearing any make-up. Even though I’m not vain, I am aware of my skin’s failings. It’s dry, not just on my face but all over my body, and — as you can see — red and flushed.

‘I’ve had broken, red veins around my nose since I was a teenager and, in spite of the dryness, a greasy nose and forehead.

‘I don’t think I drink an awful lot, but if giving up alcohol helps my skin, especially the redness, it’s worth it. Even more so if it can help me lose weight!
‘Within days of giving up drinking, my skin has improved dramatically. The redness has lifted, although the thread veins around my nose are still visible and my forehead and neck are a little rosy. Most excitingly, my eyes are brighter — it hadn’t even occurred to me they looked dull before.’

Dr Lowe says: ‘Alcohol makes skin look red or flushed, which is more obvious in paler complexions like Laura’s. In both the 'before' picture and the 'after one week' picture her face looks red.
It can take weeks of no drinking for the blood vessels to constrict fully and redness to disappear altogether.

‘If you drink regularly over a number of years — and especially in larger quantities — small peripheral veins can become permanently enlarged after being repetitively expanded, causing thread veins and permanent skin damage.’

    WEEK TWO
By week two Laura says she was sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently in the night
By week two Laura says she was sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently in the night
Laura says: ‘What a miracle! I’m sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently during the night.

‘Before, I might have woken up once or twice — whether I’d had a drink or not — but now I am sleeping like a baby. It might have helped that it was also the school holidays, so the children were sleeping in as well, but I am definitely waking up feeling brighter and more alert.

‘I’ve also noticed that in the evenings I’m not snacking as much. Normally I’d crave crisps with my usual glass of wine, but sipping a glass of lime and soda means I don’t feel like junk food. The urge just isn’t there.

‘This week also saw our 13th wedding anniversary. My husband Euan took me out to a lovely restaurant overlooking the River Forth.
'When he ordered a tall, cool beer, I had real cravings for a glass of rosé. It got worse when the table next to us started popping corks. I ordered a pink lemonade instead to distract myself.
'At least Euan was happy, as there was no discussion over who was driving home!’

Dr Lowe says‘Laura’s cheeks look puffy and swollen and there’s a lingering redness still — although it’s less obvious now.

'The spider veins remain on her lips and nose, but these might take longer to go, if at all. Facial puffiness is caused by the gentle leakage of fluid from enlarged blood vessels.

‘During the night, when we lie flat for a number of hours, this fluid tends to accumulate around our eye-lids and cheeks.

'This is because lying down helps gravity push it in that direction, but also because this is where the skin is loosest and therefore has the most room to accommodate excess fluid.

‘During the day, as we stand up and move about, the trapped fluids are released back into circulation, so the facial swelling reduces.

'After a period of time without alcohol, our blood vessels constrict, so less fluid will accumulate in the first place and skin will look less swollen after a night’s rest.’

    WEEK THREE
Laura began noticing a difference in her skin's dryness after week three
Laura began noticing a difference in her skin's dryness after week three
Laura says: ‘By now I’m noticing a difference in my skin’s dryness, and not just on my face.

'It sounds unpleasant, but when I used to take off leggings or trousers I often noticed dry flakes of skin left behind. Now there’s hardly anything.
‘Equally the backs of my hands are looking less dry and — unless I’m imagining it — marginally  less wrinkly.

‘When my mother visited this week, she said how less blotchy I was looking — success! A friend also said my skin tone looked more even.

‘Euan and I have noticed less of a difference day-by-day. That’s probably because it’s such a gradual change, but friends and family are noticing the improvement in my appearance which has given me a real thrill.

‘This has made me feel braver and more confident. I left my hand-mirror at home for a weekend camping trip this week and only took a couple of face wipes and a small pot of moisturiser — and still I got compliments.

'I did miss having a glass of wine around the camp fire, but the nice comments more than made up for that.’

Dr Lowe says: ‘There’s a significant reduction in facial redness, even around Laura’s nose and lips. She looks healthier, less puffy and slimmer, especially around her cheeks and jowls.

‘Stopping drinking alcohol means you reduce your calorie intake. There are up to 185 calories in a large glass of wine.

'Not only that, alcohol has the secondary effect of stimulating appetite, so I’m not surprised Laura isn’t snacking as much.

‘Drinking alcohol also makes the skin dry because increased blood flow though the skin speeds everything up and stimulates skin cells to renew and shed quicker.

‘Studies have shown high levels of alcohol consumption can also exacerbate dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and facial eczema.’

    WEEK FOUR
Laura lost 3lb and her face was slimmer by week four
Laura lost 3lb and her face was slimmer by week four
Laura says: ‘While Euan hasn’t noticed my mood changing, by week four I’m feeling invigorated and so much better in myself.

‘I’m getting fewer headaches and have much more energy. My lips are less dry, too — I usually get a cold sore almost every week —  but since ditching the booze not a single one has appeared.

‘Better still, I’ve lost 3lb and my face definitely looks slimmer. I have to admit, it’s been far easier to abstain from alcohol than I’d feared. I said no to a few barbecues, just in case I was tempted, but I’ve enjoyed feeling healthier and brighter, especially in the mornings.

‘On the whole, the month has sailed by. I’m going to try and stick to the no drinking rule — or at least cut out alcohol during the week.

'I’ve only had one major lapse since the end of my booze-free month. It was the very first night after the experiment and I went out with a group of friends to celebrate.

‘We drank far too much, and guess what? When I woke in the morning I looked red as anything and noticed a small dry patch of skin had re-emerged. It just goes to show alcohol does a lot worse than just give you a hangover!’

Dr Lowe says: ‘Although the changes between the final two weeks are subtler, this last photo shows a much improved Laura.

'Her eyes are more open and brighter. This, again, is because of the increased blood flow caused by alcohol. If more blood passes through the eye’s surface, it looks duller and more bloodshot.
‘After four weeks without alcohol, the blood vessels have constricted and her eyes are bright white once more.

'By now the redness across her cheeks and neck has vastly diminished and the thread veins around her nose have largely disappeared.

‘This is a classic example of what I’d hope to see for someone who has given up alcohol — and if she sticks to it, she’ll only feel and look even better.’

    OUR LATEST FAVORITE EYE MASK

We bought these Crystal Collagen Eye Mask from Qoo10 recently. They are cheap as chips and although the pack says to put it on for only 15-20minutes, we do not think that. The hydrating silicon-like patches stay hydrated for a long time and even a maximum of 20minutes does not give the maximum hydration on the eye area. We like a sheet mask but these are great for sleeping over, in our definition, wearing it to sleep. The dehydrated patches are those leftover after a night of sleep. We are always waking up with hydrated eyes. What is your anti-aging secret?

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON CASTOR OIL?

We bought a bottle of castor oil off the internet along with some other bits. We have long heard of some wonderful claims on castor oil but we want to experience it ourselves. It is said to be an ancient cure for ailments, pain, scars, liver spots...etc.

We bought it to try on everything. Calluses, scars, spots, hair. We will review it soon. This is only our first week on it. Do you have any experiences on using castor oil?

POWDERED HERBS FOR YOUR WELL BEING

    Image from fivepointsacupuncture.com
We have the habit of consuming herbal tea. We would bring the herbs to a boil and simmer it for a couple of hours, depending on the herbs. Shine has recommended we get the TCM herbalist to grind the herbs for us and powder them for our consumption. This is to ensure better absorption and also save time with making the herbal infusion.

We have powdered dendrobium and an equivalent of ginseng. This is a better and fresher alternative to those capsules in pricier joints. We shall review our powdered herbs in a few weeks time.

WE CALL THIS OUR ANTI-AGING, BENJAMIN BUTTON DRINK

Picture from wallcoo, text from zimbio.

Drinking green tea and ACV (apple cider vinegar) has so many health benefits it's pretty mind blowing. The most popular benefit of these two powerful drinks is their ability to help in losing weight.

Substances found in green tea, known as catechins, may trigger weight loss by stimulating the body to burn calories and decreasing body fat. This whole process is basically a metabolism booster. Green tea, according to researchers, can boost your metabolism up to about 4%. Green tea can also act as somewhat of a glucose regulator. It can help slow the increase of blood sugar after a meal. Green tea has also been shown to aide in curbing your appetite. Part of the affects from green tea come from the caffiene that is in it. So, make sure your body can handle caffeine consumption and also not to have too much additional caffeine sources (coffee, soft drinks - which you shouldn't be drinking anyway!, diet pills, etc.).

Just about everyone makes the same comment when taking ACV (apple cider vinegar)........it is nasty!! However, since when did you know of anything that will give you great success not have some sort of catch to it? Even though it may not taste so great, you still have to seriously consider adding this miracle drink into your weight loss efforts.

ACV can not only help in loosing weight, it also can help in curing allergies, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthirits, the flu, and so much more! Another one of the many benefits of adding ACV to your diet is that it is all natural. I highly recommend that you get organic apple cider vinegar. Also, the best way to take ACV is to add 3 tablespoons of ACV to about 8oz. of water and take three times daily (if you take before each major meal - it can help in curbing your appetite, therefore encouraging smaller portions with your meals). Apple cider vinegar does have one flaw and that is it could cause some problems with your dental enamel. The best way to avoid this from occuring, is after you have taken ACV, wash your mouth out with some water mixed with baking soda.

Remember, a long with any type of supplement, diet, plans, etc., you must incorporate these following important aspects to loosing weight, burn belly fat, and gaining lean muscle: Drink a lot of ice cold water, eat several small healthy meals daily, exercise regularly, and get no less than 7 hours of sleep per day.

Are you ready to start burning off belly fat, losing weight and getting lean muscle now? Click Here to power up your fat burning engine and start on your road to weight loss, better health, and a better body. This program that I'm recommending here is straight to the point and is not your typical "low calorie", "no carb", "don't eat anything all day" type of diet.

    HEALTH BENEFITS OF GREENTEA

Picture from Precision Nutrition, text from Yahoo.

Enough and beyond has been written about green tea and its numerous health benefits. How exactly does it help your body? Read on to find out.

    Green tea and its nutrients

All kinds of tea, be it black, green or oolong, comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. The colour of the tea depends upon the amount of fermentation it has been through. Oolong tea is partially fermented, black tea is completely fermented and green tea is not fermented at all. It is produced by steaming fresh tea leaves at very high temperature.
That tea is rich in antioxidants is a given, but green tea is known to contain large amounts of polyphenols, thearubigins, epicatechins and catechins – all types of an antioxidant known as flavanoids.

Green tea and its health benefits

Heart healthy: Regular consumption of green tea has been known to reduce overall cholesterol levels, especially the bad LDL cholesterol which ultimately reduces the risk of heart attacks and heart diseases.
Fights cancer: Catechins present in green tea, are the flavanoids which fight free radicals that damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer. Since green tea is not put through a whole lot of processing, catechins, especially epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) are available in larger numbers.
Helps you lose weight: Can a simple activity like drinking green tea help you lose weight? Recent studies show that catechins help combat accumulated fat and aid in weight loss. Experts say that this fat reducing property catechins can help in a number of lifestyle disease, including obesity.
Boosts your immune system: The antioxidants in green tea help give your immune system a boost of good health which helps keep common ailments like the flu away.
Happy teeth: Catechins are also antibacterial, which is why they are so great in fighting tooth decay, gum diseases and bad breath. Additionally, they also reduce the formation of plaque.
Prevents diabetes: Preliminary studies show that green tea may help to prevent or at the very least, slow down the onset of diabetes. The same study also suggested that green tea acts a very good agent in lowering your blood sugar.
Improves bone health: Studies show that not only can drinking green tea help improve bone density and help reduce the risk of a fracture, it also encourages bone formation.
Reduces the risk of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s: Research shows that polyphenols  present in green tea helps in improving concentration, prevents memory loss and helps reduce the accumulation of brain damaging proteins in your body.
Great for your skin: Not just as a drink, skin care products with green tea extracts are also wonderful for your skin as it helps your skin stay supple. The antioxidants in green tea are also known to help keep wrinkles at bay.
Experts suggest anywhere from 2-5 cups daily can help you rake in maximum benefit from this natural wonder. Try the decaffeinated version if you’re worried about the caffeine.
So are you ready to ditch your coffee for this healthy cuppa?

    OMBRE HAIR, HOT OR NOT

We kind of want this hair but we are also hesitant. We have such long hair, the ends are so dry already. Lightening the ends of our hair would mean even dryer hair. This is a fad and we are just thinking it through if it will be too punkish since we are already punks at heart. You cannot really have the exterior matching the interior, can you? What do you think?

JOHNSON'S BABY SHAMPOO AS MAKEUP REMOVAL OR FACIAL WASH

We have been reading about alternative toiletries. Like using bicarbonate of soda as a facial scrub to using Apple cider vinegar as a facial mist. We like going to makeupalley.com to read about different uses of toiletries and kitchen products. We recently stumbled upon the use of Johnson's baby shampoo as a facial wash or a makeup removal. We are very surprised by it. However, if you think about it and how gentle this product is on babies, it definitely will not harm our skins. You can read more about baby shampoo as a facial wash here. Below are some reviews we found on the site. Simply wonderful.

I was amazed at how this takes off eye makeup without stinging. I tried the tip on of the other MUA ladies mentioned and that Qtip idea is amazing.
I dip the tip in hot water, touch the surface of the shampoo in the bottle, then roll it over my lids and lashes and it just rolls right off.
I continue to follow up with a creamier face wash, either my favourite Neutrogena wipes in the blue box or whatever else is handy at the moment as it does leave my skin a bit tight and dry when used all over.
I have oily lids to begin with, and I put a good layer of night cream on afterwards so I've not seen any problems.
For reference I'm a sensitive skin redhead with a bit of rosacea, I'm mid 50s and I have eczema and loads of allergies, and I react vigourously to a lot of fragrances and natural products.
    This stuff rocks.
THANKS MUA!!!!!!!!!! I'd never have known if I hadn't glanced at somebody else's review.

I bought this stuff cuz I read that it helps with milia. U know, those stupid tiny bumps under the eye?? I put some on a q-tip and dab on and leave on overnight and presto!! Been 2 nights and those suckers are nearly gone!! Oh how I love cheap remedies! I see a lot of MUA using it for cleaning makeup brushes, Ill give that a try too!
P.S This stuff works wonders on acne too! Just dab it on and leave on overnight!!

My HG eye makeup remover. Most makeup removers sting and burn my eyes and just leave my skin way too dry to use everyday.
J&J Baby Shampoo (or drugstore/grocery generic) takes off everything: mascara, waterproof liquid eyeliner, concealer, eyeshadow, all with just two quick washes. I don't have to scrub and tug on my eyelids to get my makeup off before bed, and it takes all of 15 seconds. No burning, no redness. It does dry my skin slightly, but not nearly as much as other removers have. Considering how well it works, I'm fine with just laying on a bit of eye cream afterwards. Wouldn't use it on my entire face though, I prefer Pond's cold cream for removing my foundation/concealer/powder.
Also: the bottle will last you ages, at least a few months. And it's really easy to find travel size bottles to stash in a suitcase (just wrap a bit of masking tape or duct tape around the base of the cap to prevent spills). continued >>

EDEN ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR VERSUS BRAGGS

We have been really busy since the beginning of the year and we didn't have time to go to the shops to replenish our ACV. We live in Singapore and we usually go down to Mustafa in Little India to buy a couple of the big bottles. 2 big bottles lasted us for about 2 months. Anyway, due to our busy schedule we started to see if there are any other places we could possibly buy our ACV from. We stumbled upon this site called Naturaworks.com and it answered our cravings for our ACV.

It is an online store and they will delivery for free for order over SGD80 within Singapore. We ordered a case of Eden ACV. It is cheaper than Braggs and the content in terms of acidity and mother is similar. We thought we would give it a try. Here is our breakdown of Eden versus Braggs

    • Eden is much cheaper. It is SGD7.50 as supposed to Bragg's SGD10.50 in the same size of 946ml.
    • Eden comes in a tinted bottle, protecting the ACV from light which totally makes sense for us. Braggs' bottle is clear and you can see the ACV with the mother.
    • Eden seems more palatable. It smells vinegary but it isn't as pungent as Braggs. Braggs then to be very sharp in taste.
    • Eden doesn't smell as vinegary as Braggs so it is better for us to use it as a facial mist.
    • Eden has a lot less reviews online than Braggs but we think this is just a branding and marketing tactic from Bragg. ACV is ACV.
We shall review it again after a couple of weeks of consumption.
