It was snowing freakishly last week. It is supposed to be warmer this week, we were even hoping that the snow/ice would melt. We went out on Saturday last week and the city of Amsterdam was in a mess.
The walkways were full of muddy slush and it was not a beautiful white christmas-y sight. The snow was half melted and compressed to become ice. It really was disgusting. It was a slippery affair.
It is still icy on the pavements this week. We went out to do our grocery yesterday, only to find ourselves walking too slowly on ice, afraid of slipping which we already did once last week. We had to find snow to walk on to create some sort of path of grip, if not, grass which have not been frozen to bits.
It never fails to amaze us how we are staying in the middle of a 'cosmopolitan city', or at least it claims to be, and there is no precautions for snow. It certainly isn't the first time it has snowed here and the weather forecast has predicted it weeks ago. There are a lot of old people walking around too. Where did all the tax go to?
