LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

TODAY WE MADE SOME CRAZY-ASS HERBAL CONGEE

Photo from theurbn.com where we were totally inspired to make this dish.

We started cooking again. Our folks are traveling this week and that gives us the wonderful opportunity to make use of the kitchen, which is usually very daunting as there is only one queen in the kitchen and that ain't us.

We like the idea of having congee on Sundays. Sundays are always a stay-in day for us. The restful, lazy day of the week to recuperate from the fatigue accumulated in a week.

We decided to make our own congee today and added some punching goodness in it too. Here is what we added to our power congee:

  • Mixed rice which you can buy from the supermarket. This is a mixture of white, unpolished and brown rice
  • Oatmeal for that extra fibre-goodness and creaminess
  • Goji berries
  • Dried shitake mushrooms
  • Dried scallops
  • Chicken stock cube
  • Lingzhi which as also known as reishi
  • He Shou We which is also known as Fo-ti or polygonum multiflorum
  • Dang gui, we love the taste of this
  • Red dates
  • Garlic
  • Carrots
Just add some sesame oil and light soy sauce when serving. This is going to be a wonderful tonic dinner for us.
