LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

MAKE YOUR OWN HUMMUS : MINIMUM 1 INGREDIENT, EXCLUDING OLIVE OIL

When we were visiting Mr Washy in Amsterdam, we asked if he likes hummus during a grocery shopping trip. He said yes and lets buy some hummus. Why would anyone buy hummus? It is the easiest thing to make ever! So we shut him up and bought a can of chickpeas for 50cents. Hummus is a healthy low fat dip which is ohh so delicious and morish, much better than any of those mayonnaise-based and cheese-based dips. Hummus is so good for children too.

Canned chickpeas are convenient and already salted because they are soaked in brine. Some people like to prepare their own chickpeas from the dried chickpeas by soaking them overnight. But really, canned chickpeas are just so much more convenient.

  DIRECTIONS :
  • Drain a can of chickpeas of its brine. Keep the brine for later.
  • Put all the chickpeas into a blender. Add a bit of olive oil. We can always add more olive oil after it is done.
  • Pour in some of the brine. This salted water helps the chickpeas to blend more easily and adds some saltiness to it too.
  • Optional : You can always add more flavor by putting in pepper and raw garlic. Some people put in tahini too. We didn't have tahini so it was pepper and garlic for us.
  • Blend.
  • Add more brine or olive oil to taste.
  • Serve with roasted vegetables, raw vegetable sticks, bread...etc.
You can keep hummus in the fridge for about 3 days but we never did. The Washy finished all of it before we could store it.

Lovely recipe! I've been wanting to make this for some time now & glad I read this ;-) Thanks for sharing it, and even better how easy it seems to be! Healthy + great-tasting + little effort to make = what I'm going to serve with snacks this coming weekend!
