LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

RIDE, DON'T FLY : CHEAP 2D1N TRIP TO MALACCA FROM SINGAPORE

We are not really fans of flying and it always seems too much time to fly, the checking in, the waiting to board...etc. We decided to take a short trip to Malacca.

Malacca (Malay: Melaka, dubbed The Historical State or Negeri Bersejarah amongst locals) is the third smallest Malaysian state, after Perlis and Penang. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, on the Straits of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and the state of Johor to the south. The capital is Malacca Town. This historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008.

We love a short trip to Malacca. It is a very relaxed small town. We went there over the weekdays, missing the weekend markets and crowds. It was enjoyable and cheap. There was not a lot to do but the food was divine.

The whole journey to Malacca took about 4 hours from Singapore to Malacca Bus Interchange. If you were to add up the time you need to spend checking in and boarding for a flight, it really isn't much longer to take a bus to somewhere nearby. We are lucky to be based in Singapore where Malaysia is just across the border.

THE DAMAGE:

From Singapore to Malacca: Approx. S$20.80
From Malacca to Singapore: Approx. RM22.80, Approx. S$9.00
Total: Approx. S$30 for a return trip per person

OUR ADVICE:
Buy your return ticket once you reach Malacca Bus Interchange. It is much cheaper to do it this way. If you were to purchase your return ticket in Singapore, it would be cost as much as a single trip from Singapore to Malacca.

ON THE BUS:
Bring your ipod, read, chat, snooze, snuggle in a spacious air-conditioned bus. Loads of scenic greenery on the way. Bring some bread or buns and water for breakfast on the bus. The bus would stop at an eatery for food and a toilet break. We do not recommend food there, it just does not look very nice. Save your stomach for lunch in Malacca.
