We promised ourselves we would eat as much street food as possible. Although, we know that not a lot of street stalls will be open during the Chinese New Year period. We stumbled on this street stall selling curry noodles. There were a lot of locals queueing up for it and as well packing the noodles back for breakfast or brunch. We decided we had to eat it.
The portion is rather small, good enough for a taste. It is more like an appetizer. The yellow egg noodles were combined with fresh cockles, bean sprouts, fish balls, shrimps and fried tofu puffs. It was served with a creamy broth and a spoonful of fragrant chili. We were supposed to mix the chili into the soup. This is because they offer spicy broth and non-spicy broth. The spicy broth would include you stirring the fragrant chili in yourself. We really love that Penang food is a bit like Vietnamese cuisine, in the sense that they top it with fresh herbs, and in this case, fresh mint. It gave such a fresh and uplifting taste to the noodles and broth.
This unpretentious street stall sells their noodles for what is RM2.80 if that is what we remember right. A lot of you might not be brave enough to try it as it is by the road, their broth in big buckets and the cleanliness is not tops. But frankly speaking, if this is good or even excellent for the Penangnites, we do not see how us visitors should frown upon it.
Yummy.
