LIFE IS A JOURNEY, ARE YOU READY?

OUR EVENING IN MALACCA : RINGO'S CLASSIC

The Friday and Saturday Jonker Walk Night Market in Malacca City’s Chinatown closes down Jalan Hang Lekir to traffic and when the sun goes down here the handful of bars along the boulevard become a mini street party with tables oozing beyond the sidewalks and a mix of live music coursing throughout the area.

As it was the weekend, there was a glimpse of a buzzing nightlife in Malacca. The street to go to is Jalan Hang Lekir where there are a few bars with live music. They are frequented by the locals alike. The atmosphere was buzzing with the crowd from the night market also joining in.

This is Ringo's Bar which we think is the better of the 2 bars on the street. Ringo the owner does his own live music, a bit of English, Manadarin, Hokkein and Cantonese Rock & Roll. The other is the Geographer bar, just opposite. It is a bit more done up, more classy and more foreigner-friendly. But you do not go to a place like Malacca for foreigner-friendly joints do you?

Ringo’s Classic Café Malacca
Boasting an adequate selection of drinks, Ringo’s is a dusty yet densely packed pub along Jonker Street. Although it might not look like much, it has a steady clientele and is busy on the weekends. Good music and friendly service feature throughout this joint and it’s a good place to enjoy the sights of the market.
