OUR NEW MORTAR AND PESTLE FROM MALACCA

We were hunting for a granite mortar and pestle in Malacca. This is not the one we bought but it is more or less like this, just not so refine. It has becoming increasing difficult to find them in Singapore and even so, they are expensive as they have become rather rare. A lot of people are now opting for blenders. This is probably the best thing for preparing herbs and spices. We have not used it yet but since all renowed chefs are opting for this rather than the electronic blender, we are guessing this is the real deal for preparation. 

It took us a while to find one, or even one which is affordable. EVERYTHING in Malacca seemed to be categorized as antique. Which is just a tourist trap to us. It got very annoying at the end when a simple mortar and pestle is costing more than 100SGD. We finally found ours in a curios shop and paid a mere 8SGD for it. A bargain thanks to our bargaining skills.
